Life's Journey On Our Back Road Lavender Farm
Sometimes life has a funny way of surprising you.
Now and then I find myself looking around this farm and asking, How in the world did I get here?
Because if you had told me years ago that I’d one day own a lavender farm tucked away on the back roads of Alabama, I probably would have instantly replied with an, “Oh hell no.”
Before the farm, my world looked very different. I spent my career in marketing, helping businesses across Alabama grow and bring their vision to life. I loved the work. It was fast-paced, creative, and always moving. I truly thought that was exactly where life was taking me.
Now, before I go any further, I should probably tell you one little detail.
I actually grew up on a peanut farm when I was younger.
Yep.
And if I’m being honest, as a young girl, I was certain my future would take me somewhere else. I wanted to build a career, make a difference, and experience everything the world had to offer. Never—not for one second—did I imagine I’d one day find myself back on a farm.
Then one day my husband mentioned buying a little piece of land.
At first, I humored him.
We started looking, and before long we found ourselves standing on a beautiful piece of property that neither of us could quite stop thinking about. We imagined building a home, planting a garden, and creating a place our family could enjoy together.
At the time, that was the extent of the plan.
A farm certainly wasn’t.
When we decided to plant lavender, I remember thinking one thing over and over again…
Who is going to drive all the way out here?
We’re tucked away on a back road in rural Alabama. I honestly believed if people were ever going to discover our lavender, I’d have to pack everything up and take it to farmers markets and festivals. Surely no one was going to drive all this way just to visit a little back road lavender farm.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Little by little, people started coming.
Then more people came.
Families began making the drive. Photographers started booking sessions in the lavender fields. We hosted festivals. Familiar faces returned season after season. Before long, people were driving from hours away just to stop by our little farm store.
To this day, I’m still amazed when someone tells me they drove two hours for our lavender products. Every time I hear it, I find myself thinking,
“You drove all this way… for us?”
That feeling has never gone away.
More than anything, it’s the people who have made this journey so special. Seeing familiar faces return season after season, following along with our journey, and cheering us on has been one of the most unexpected blessings of all. What started as a little farm on a back road has quietly grown into a community, and I never saw that coming.
Looking back now, I can’t help but smile.
The little girl who couldn’t wait to leave the farm somehow found her way back. Only this time, it’s our farm. Our family’s dream. And I honestly can’t imagine life any differently.
The beautiful thing is, I have a feeling we’re just getting started.
There is so much more to come for our little back road farm. We’ll soon be opening the farm store with regular hours, welcoming more visitors, hosting special gatherings for women, and continuing to dream about all the ways this place can bring people together.
