Lavender Baking Soda Kitchen & Bathroom Scrub

This natural baking soda cleaning scrub effectively removes dirt, grease, and stains, making it perfect for deep cleaning your sink, oven, or bathroom. It outperforms many store-bought cleaners without being laden with chemicals.  

Mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of warm water or a few drops of soap to create a thick paste. Use this paste to scrub sinks, countertops, and stovetops. Be sure to store the jar safely and never leave cleaning products unattended.  

Soap and baking soda work well together, as they each serve different purposes. Soap is unique because it is both hydrophilic (it attracts water) and hydrophobic (it repels water and can bind to oil). It attaches to dirt and grease, dislodging particles that are then rinsed away with water.  

Baking soda is also alkaline like soap, but it has the added benefit of being slightly abrasive. This means it has enough grit to dislodge stubborn particles and stains. Since most odors are acidic, baking soda can effectively neutralize them.

Baking soda’s slight abrasiveness means it shouldn’t be used on the following materials:

- Aluminum cookware
- Gold-plated serving pieces
- Marble

For an all-purpose cleaner, combine 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 2 teaspoons of vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 2 cups of hot water in a spray bottle. Shake well before using.
